MONDAY 18TH JANUARY 2016
An aircraft operated by the Airline Academy of Australia landed safely at Archerfield Airport this afternoon, following an emergency response prompted by a landing gear indication issue.
The Cessna 310, with a senior instructor and a student on board, was preparing to land shortly before 2pm when a warning light incorrectly indicated the right hand main landing gear had not locked into place.
The Academy enacted its emergency response procedures, which included alerting emergency services authorities.
Meanwhile the senior instructor performed a number of low-level overhead passes to allow visual inspection of the landing gear, which appeared to be functioning correctly.
Based on this information, the aircraft was landed safely at 2.25 pm. An investigation into the cause of the false indication is underway.
